Cattle Smuggling Foiled in Cuttack, 30 Rescued
Cuttack, April 11: A major cattle smuggling attempt was thwarted in Cuttack when Bajrang Dal activists from Khordha intercepted three pickup vans allegedly transporting cows illegally.
The chase ended dramatically at the Jatamundia Subarnapur Bridge in Banki, where one van overturned, leaving distressed cattle scattered on the road.
Around 30 cows were rescued, though some sustained injuries after leaping from the overturned vehicle.
Police seized all three vans and launched a detailed investigation into the smuggling network. The driver of the overturned van fled the scene.
Activists alleged that illegal cow smuggling has surged in the region, accusing authorities of negligence in curbing repeated incidents.
Officials confirmed that arrangements were made for the safe custody and care of the rescued cattle.
This incident highlights both the growing concern over cattle smuggling in Odisha and the criticism of administrative lapses in tackling the issue.
