BRICS Disaster Meet in Puri: Odisha CM to Inaugurate

Puri, Odisha: The BRICS Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group’s technical meeting entered its second day in Puri, with delegates from 11 countries participating in the three‑day conference.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is scheduled to formally inaugurate the event, which focuses on strengthening global cooperation in disaster preparedness and resilience.

Key discussions include community‑based disaster risk reduction, financing mechanisms, prevention and mitigation strategies, and emergency response systems.

Odisha will showcase its globally recognised disaster management model, credited with minimising casualties during cyclones and floods through early warning systems and community participation.

The conference serves as a vital platform for knowledge‑sharing among BRICS nations, highlighting the urgency of collaborative approaches as climate change intensifies extreme weather events.

Technical sessions, expert presentations, and policy dialogues will continue over the next two days, reinforcing Odisha’s role as a leader in disaster preparedness and resilience‑building.
