BJD Questions BJP’s Claim of 45,000 Jobs in Odisha in Two Years

Bhubaneswar, Odisha: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has strongly contested the BJP-led Odisha government’s claim of creating 45,000 government jobs in the past two years.

BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty alleged that nearly 39,000 of these posts were advertised during the previous Naveen Patnaik administration, leaving only 6,000 fresh appointments under the BJP.

Mohanty further accused the government of failing to deliver on its manifesto promise of 1.5 lakh jobs in five years, including 65,000 within the first two years.

He highlighted that 24 recruitment examinations were cancelled in the last two years, reflecting alleged inefficiency in the recruitment process.

According to BJD, as of January 2026, 94,485 government posts remain vacant.

The party also criticised the BJP for not fulfilling its pledge of generating 3.5 lakh private sector jobs.

Mohanty claimed that unemployment has worsened, rising from 0.9% under the BJD government to 3.5% under the BJP.

The BJD has urged the ruling party to present transparent figures and address the growing concerns of job seekers across Odisha.
