Bhubaneswar Accident: Auto Driver Killed, CM Announces Rs 4 Lakh Aid

Bhubaneswar witnessed another tragic incident on Saturday when an Ama Bus collided with an auto rickshaw near Rupali Square, claiming the life of driver Bishnu Patra from Jajpur and injuring a student.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over the accident, extending condolences to the bereaved family and announcing Rs 4 lakh assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) also pledged Rs 2 lakh aid for the victim’s family.

Majhi raised concerns over repeated mishaps involving Ama Bus services and directed the Transport Department to coordinate with CRUT to strengthen safety standards. He ordered:

  • Regular driver training programs focus on technical skills, health, and mental well‑being.
  • Routine fitness checks of Ama buses by Motor Vehicle Inspectors.
  • Formation of a dedicated squad under the Commerce and Transport Department to monitor bus fitness and compliance.
  • Periodic safety reviews to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

Police confirmed the arrest of the bus driver involved in the collision.

The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to passenger safety and accountability in public transport operations.
