Arabinda Padhee Opposes Jaipur Rath Yatra on August 16

Odisha Development Commissioner Arabinda Padhee has urged the Jajpur Collector to halt the proposed Rath Yatra celebration in Jaipur scheduled for August 16, 2026.

In his letter, Padhee emphasised that such an event would contradict the scriptural prescriptions and established traditions of Lord Jagannath’s rituals.

The Rath Yatra, traditionally observed in Puri, involves the ceremonial journey of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra from the Shree Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple.

Padhee cautioned that replicating the festival outside its prescribed framework risks diluting Jagannath culture and heritage.

The intervention has sparked debate over whether regional adaptations of the Rath Yatra align with the sanctity of Jagannath traditions or represent a deviation from centuries‑old practices.
