3.9-Magnitude Quake Jolts Debagada, Odisha Residents Panic

A mild earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale jolted the Debagada district of Odisha late on September 28, 2026.

The tremors, recorded at 10:48 pm by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), had their epicentre at latitude 21.179°N and longitude 84.774°E, with a depth of 20 km.

Residents across Debagada blocks including Chadheimara, Barkot, Kundheigola, and Reamal, as well as parts of Anugola district such as Khamar, Patakamunda, and Chhendipada, reported feeling the tremors.

Panic gripped several households as people rushed outdoors for safety.

Authorities confirmed that no casualties or structural damage have been reported so far.

The NCS has classified the quake as a “reviewed event,” and further updates on its intensity and impact are awaited.
