140‑Foot Buddha Sand Sculpture Stuns Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: A monumental sand sculpture of Lord Buddha has been unveiled on the banks of the Daya River, captivating visitors with its sheer scale and artistry.
Measuring 140 feet in length, 36 feet in height, and 50 feet in width, the reclining Buddha figure was crafted using 22 lakh kilograms of sand.
The Rotary Club of Bhubaneswar spearheaded the initiative, with 20 artists—including six women—working tirelessly for 36 hours to bring the vision to life.
The sculpture symbolises Buddha’s timeless message of peace, harmony, and non‑violence, offering a serene spectacle for the public.
Open for viewing over three days, the artwork has already drawn crowds who praised its intricate detailing and cultural significance.
The installation not only highlights Odisha’s rich sand art tradition but also reinforces Bhubaneswar’s reputation as a hub of creativity and spiritual heritage.
