Angul, Odisha: A tragic hit‑and‑run late Thursday night on National Highway 149 at Burukuna Chhak near Samakoi Bridge claimed one life and left another critically injured. According to eyewitnesses, an unidentified vehicle struck a motorcycle, sparking a fire that engulfed the two‑wheeler. The rider was trapped in the flames and died on the spot, while the pillion rider sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to Khamar Community Health Centre and later shifted to Angul District Hospital for advanced treatment. The motorcycle was completely reduced to ashes in the blaze. Police from Samal station reached the site and have begun investigating the case. The identity of the deceased is yet to be confirmed. This incident underscores the rising concern over highway safety in Odisha, where fatal accidents continue to claim lives.
