World Environment Day 2026 Celebrated with Zeal in Kendujhar, Nature Champions Honored
Kendujhar – The district-level celebration of World Environment Day 2026 in Kendujhar was marked with enthusiasm and community spirit. The theme of the event was “Inspired by Nature – For Climate and Future.”
Organised jointly by Kendujhar Forest Division, Barbil Municipality, and social organisation Native Voice, the programme was graced by Hon’ble Kendujhar MP Ananta Nayak as Chief Guest, who emphasised the urgent need for environmental conservation.
Distinguished dignitaries included DFO Dhanraj Hanumant Dhamdhere, DCF Ramchandra Murmu, IMCTF Odisha State President Murali Manohar Sharma, Barbil Municipality Executive Officer Ramesh Chandra Nayak, Colonel J. M. Joshi of 14 Odisha Battalion NCC, and Joda Block President Kabindra Naik.
Each speaker shared valuable insights on protecting natural resources and fostering ecological awareness.
The program began with a welcome address by Rasanand Behera, Secretary of Native Voice, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Native Voice nominated President for this program Nilamani Mahanta.
All participants took a collective pledge to safeguard the environment.
Selected schools from across the district received the “Prakriti Mitra Award”, comprising Rs.20,000 in incentive funds and certificates.
Individuals making notable contributions to conservation were honoured with the “Prakriti Bandhu Award.”
Special recognition was given to Mamta Vishwal for her efforts in medicinal tree plantation, the organisation “Khushi – The Incredible India” for riverbank clean-up and afforestation drives, and Nalini Agrawal, founder of Draupadi Devi Cultural Institution, for her cultural and social initiatives.
The Forest Department also extended Rs.10 lakh ex gratia support to the families of Birsa Munda and Raibu Naik, victims of elephant attacks.
Additionally, eco-friendly improved cookstoves and paddy storage boxes were distributed to stakeholders.
The event concluded with the resounding message: “Environmental Protection, Green Earth Creation, and Public Awareness.
