Women Demand Dedicated Ama Buses on Bhubaneswar–Cuttack Route

Women commuters in Odisha have raised urgent concerns over harassment and overcrowding on Ama Buses operating between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

Passengers have appealed to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to direct the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) to introduce women‑only buses during peak hours.

Several women reported incidents of inappropriate touching and harassment in crowded buses, often making it difficult to identify offenders.

Some passengers said conductors intervened in certain cases, but the lack of dedicated services continues to leave women vulnerable.

One commuter shared that repeated harassment affected her mental well‑being and forced her to change work timings.

Another student highlighted the absence of clear complaint mechanisms, recalling her hesitation in contacting police after an incident.

Parents also expressed concern about sending daughters on overcrowded buses, citing risks of harassment and theft.

Passengers have demanded two to three pairs of women‑only buses during rush hours (8–10 am and 5–7 pm), along with stronger surveillance, female security staff, and better complaint systems.

They believe such measures would ensure safer mobility and restore confidence in public transport.
