Low Pressure Over Bay of Bengal Likely to Intensify, Odisha on Alert
A low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal, off the Odisha and West Bengal coasts, under the influence of an active cyclonic circulation.
The system is expected to move northwards within 24 hours and intensify further, raising concerns of heavy rainfall across several districts.
The IMD has issued red warnings for Mayurbhanj and Balasore, forecasting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall with risks of waterlogging.
Orange warnings are in place for Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack, and Kendrapara, while other districts remain under yellow alerts for moderate rainfall.
Coastal areas may experience wind speeds of 30–40 kmph.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, and residents are urged to remain cautious of traffic disruptions, waterlogging, and possible landslides.
