Vigilance Nabs Cooperative Official in ₹33.80 Lakh Fraud

Bhubaneswar/Angul: Odisha Vigilance has arrested Patitapaban Majhi, a cooperative official, for allegedly misappropriating Rs 33.80 lakh from government deposits meant for agricultural and cooperative schemes.

According to officials, the irregularities date back to 2017–18 when Majhi was serving as Executive Secretary of Garhsantri Service Co‑operative Society under Angul United Central Co‑operative Bank (AUCCB).

Investigators found that he fabricated entries in Day Books, showing balanced transactions while failing to deposit the actual cash.

Majhi, who was working as a banking assistant at AUCCB headquarters at the time of arrest, was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and relevant sections of the IPC.

Vigilance confirmed the embezzled amount as Rs 33,80,963. He was produced before the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul.

The case highlights Odisha Vigilance’s intensified crackdown on financial irregularities in cooperative institutions across the state.
