Rourkela Police Foil Dacoity Attempt, Five Armed Miscreants Arrested

Rourkela Police successfully foiled a planned dacoity near Congress Bhawan at Nayabazar during a late‑night patrol on May 29–30, 2026.

Acting on reliable intelligence, a team led by Sub‑Inspector B.B. Khatei of Plantsite Police Station apprehended five armed youths before they could execute the crime.

The arrested individuals were identified as Sonu Singh alias Tundi (20), Deepak Sandha alias Sanbabu (29), Vicky Ahmed alias Rocky (24), Sahid Khan alias Sahil (19), and Krishna Das alias Khepa (19).

Police seized two iron swords, one bhujali, and two iron rods from their possession.

Investigations revealed that several of the accused had prior criminal records, including cases of robbery, theft, assault, and violations under the Arms Act. Notable cases include Plantsite PS Case No.

89/2020 (Section 394 IPC), Case No. 36/2022 (Section 379 IPC), Case No. 354/2022 (Section 382 IPC), Case No. 520/2024 (Sections 294, 323, 341 IPC), and Case No. 1033/2025 (Sections 310(4), 310(5) BNS and Arms Act).

All five accused were forwarded to court. Police officials emphasised that swift intervention prevented a major crime and reinforced the importance of preventive policing in Rourkela.
