Thunderstorms Loom Over Five Odisha Districts, IMD Issues Alert
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in five districts of Odisha — Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Nuapada, and Nabarangpur.
The alert, valid until April 4, 2026, warns of heavy rain accompanied by winds reaching 30–40 km/h.
On April 3, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Puri were placed under a yellow warning for heat, while Nuapada and Nabarangpur faced warnings for thunderstorms.
The IMD also cautioned residents about discomfort due to humidity and advised precautionary measures.
Farmers have been urged to safeguard standing crops against sudden downpours and strong winds. Residents are advised to remain indoors during lightning activity.
Odisha is currently experiencing a mixed weather pattern, with hot daytime conditions followed by evening showers.
From April 5, heavier rainfall and more intense thunderstorms are expected in localised areas, marking a shift in the state’s weather conditions.
