Temple Dedicated to Ganga Devi Resurfaces After 25 Years in Ganjam

A temple believed to be dedicated to Goddess Ganga Devi has resurfaced at Podampeta Sea Beach in Ganjam district, Odisha, after being submerged for nearly 25 years.

The temple, along with a settlement of around 100 households, was engulfed by the advancing sea due to coastal erosion.

The upper portion of the temple, known locally as Dadhinauti, is now visible, drawing crowds of curious residents who recall the lost settlement.

Elderly villagers recount how the sea gradually advanced, destroying homes and structures, forcing families to relocate inland.

Locals say the temple was built by the community but may not have been formally consecrated before the sea swallowed the area.

While residents identify it as the Ganga Devi Temple, its exact age and historical details remain unverified.

Archaeological and government records would be required to confirm its origins.

The resurfacing has rekindled cultural memory and sparked curiosity, serving as a reminder of the fragile balance between coastal communities and the sea.
