Rourkela Police Exchange Fire with Murder Case Accused, Two Injured
Rourkela police engaged in a gunfire exchange with suspects linked to the Sector‑7 murder case of Tophan Bindhani during a late‑night operation on June 19.
According to officials, the incident occurred around 3:30 AM on June 20 when the accused opened fire at a police vehicle, damaging its bonnet.
Police retaliated with four rounds, injuring two suspects — Nanda Naik and Chunnu Haripa — who were immediately shifted to Rourkela Government Hospital. Their condition is reported to be stable.
Another accused, Johnson Nag, was apprehended during the operation, while others, including Rohit Mukhi and Rohit Haripa, remain under investigation.
Weapons and ammunition were seized from the scene, which is undergoing scientific examination.
The case has been registered under Sector‑7 P.S. Case No. 145 dated June 16 under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police confirmed that further investigation is underway to ensure justice in the murder case.
