Rogue Elephant Tramples Labourer to Death in Dhenkanal
Dhenkanal (Odisha): A tragic incident unfolded late Monday night when a rogue elephant trampled a 50‑year‑old labourer to death in Damol village under Parjang police limits.
The victim, identified as Anai Behera, was returning home from a brick kiln on his bicycle around 10:30 pm when the elephant attacked him.
Behera died instantly at the spot. His body was later recovered by family members, police, and forest officials, and sent to Parjang Community Health Centre for post‑mortem examination.
Authorities have confirmed the incident and initiated inquiries into elephant movement in the area. The attack has triggered widespread fear among villagers living in forest‑fringe zones, who have long been troubled by frequent elephant incursions into human settlements in search of food.
