Puri to Host BRICS Disaster Risk Reduction Meet in June

Puri, Odisha, is set to host the Second BRICS Technical Meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction from June 3–5, 2026, at the Taj Puri Resort.

Delegates from BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—along with partner countries such as Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE will participate.

The three‑day event will focus on sharing best practices, leveraging technology for disaster preparedness, and strengthening coordinated approaches to mitigate risks from natural calamities.

Odisha was chosen as the host state for its globally recognised disaster management model, particularly its cyclone warning systems, community‑based early alerts, timely evacuations, and effective rescue operations.

Officials expect the meeting to enhance knowledge exchange among BRICS partners, reinforce collaborative strategies, and showcase Odisha’s achievements in disaster resilience.

The event also underscores India’s leadership under its BRICS presidency and commitment to sustainable development.
