Palasuni’s Durga Puja Mandap Transforms into Myanmar’s Golden Palace
Bhubaneswar, Sept 7: This year, the Palasuni Durga Puja Committee has unveiled a breathtaking mandap modeled after Myanmar’s iconic Golden Palace, offering devotees a taste of international grandeur without leaving Odisha.
Standing 50 feet tall and 60 feet wide, the structure was crafted by 50 skilled Bengali artisans over a month.
The 20-foot Durga idol, sculpted by Soma Behera of Cuttack, is adorned with silver crowns weighing over 1.5 kg each. The mandap also features a 24-foot decorative arch and illuminated stretches from Palasuni to Rasulgarh flyover.
Key rituals include Bilwabarana and Kalash Yatra on Shasthi, Agyanmala from Narayani Peeth on Saptami, and Khichdi bhog on Ashtami. On Dashami, devotees will be treated to ten varieties of traditional pitha. Notably, the Ravana Dahan event has been omitted this year.
To ensure safety and accessibility, 40 volunteers and the Commissionerate Police are deployed. Special arrangements include wheelchair access, CCTV surveillance, and separate facilities for women. Cultural programs span three melody evenings and one bhajan night, complemented by Meena Bazaar and swings.
This immersive experience blends devotion with architectural wonder, fulfilling travel dreams through festive creativity.
