Operation Daman: Odisha Police Launches Statewide Crackdown Ahead of Festive Season
Bhubaneswar: Acting DGP Vinaytosh Mishra has rolled out Operation Daman, a sweeping law‑and‑order initiative across Odisha to ensure peace during the festive season.
The drive, launched on September 21 and continuing until September 30, mobilises District Police, Commissionerate Police, Railway Police, and tactical units statewide.
Authorities have already executed 109 non‑bailable warrants against habitual offenders and taken preventive legal action against 40 individuals under BNSS Section 129.
To tighten border security, 151 checkpoints have been set up, blocking key routes and intercepting criminal activity.
Arms and dangerous weapons have been seized in raids.
The crackdown has also targeted narcotics and excise violations. Under the NDPS Act, 15 cases were registered with 18 arrests, leading to the seizure of 1,918 kg of ganja, 63.62 g of brown sugar, banned codeine syrup bottles, cash, and vehicles.
Excise raids yielded 895 litres of country liquor, 193 litres of foreign liquor, 98 litres of Aska‑40, and 209 litres of mahua liquor.
Gambling dens and extortion rackets were also busted, with multiple arrests.
Police sources confirmed that the operation will intensify further in the coming days to safeguard citizens and maintain a peaceful festive environment across Odisha.
