Odisha Transport Department Launches Crackdown on Uninsured Vehicles

The Odisha Transport Department has initiated a strict enforcement drive against uninsured vehicles across the state.

Officials confirmed that vehicles found without valid insurance, fitness certificates, or Pollution Under Control (PUC) documents will face immediate penalties, including e‑challans, seizure, and possible cancellation of registration certificates (RCs).

To strengthen compliance, toll gates are being equipped with e‑Detection systems that automatically verify vehicle documents.

This move aims to reduce manual inspections and ensure road safety through technology‑driven monitoring.

According to official data, more than 65.7 lakh vehicles in Odisha currently lack valid insurance, highlighting the scale of the issue.

Authorities have warned habitual offenders of stricter legal consequences, urging vehicle owners to update their insurance and documentation promptly.

The crackdown is part of a broader initiative to enhance road safety, enforce mandatory documentation, and curb violations that put lives at risk.
