Odisha to showcase rich weaving legacy, artisanal heritage at Mega Handloom Exhibition
Bhubaneswar, Aug 5 (UNI) The Odisha Government will organise a Mega Handloom and Handicraft Exhibition from August 7 to 13 at Janata Maidan, Bhubaneswar, to celebrate the state’s vibrant weaving traditions and artisanal excellence.
Addressing a press conference today, Handlooms, Textiles, and Handicrafts Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta announced that 60 stalls, a food court, and a play zone have been set up to exhibit Odisha’s diverse handloom and handicraft legacy.
He informed that over 1,500 weavers from various parts of Odisha, along with artisans from more than eight other states, will participate in the exhibition.
The week-long event will also feature seven knowledge-sharing sessions, live weaving demonstrations and a felicitation ceremony for the State Handloom Award 2023–24. Highlighting the significance of Odisha’s weaving tradition, the Minister said, “Our weavers are the soul of our cultural heritage.
A handloom product is not merely a piece of cloth—it is a legacy.”
The State-Level National Handloom Day 2025 will be observed on August 7.
This will be followed by EKTA (Exhibition-cum-Knowledge Sharing for Textile Advantage) sessions on August 8 and 9.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will inaugurate the National Handloom Day celebration on August 7, which will also be graced by Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit Nene.
As part of the festivities, cultural programs such as Odissi dance, Sambalpuri folk performances, contemporary dance, fashion shows, and laser shows will be held every evening.
