Odisha to Introduce Life Skills Curriculum for Special Schools

The Odisha Government is set to roll out a Life Skills Education (LSE) curriculum for students with hearing and visual impairments from the 2026–27 academic session.

Developed with technical support from UNFPA, Odisha, the modules are designed for Classes V–VII and VIII–X, focusing on creativity, self‑expression, and holistic development.

Master Trainers and school heads have already undergone orientation, while SOPs, weekly session plans, and monitoring formats have been prepared to ensure uniform implementation.

District Social Security Officers (DSSOs) will supervise the rollout, conducting monthly reviews based on submitted data.

Initially, the programme will cover special schools across 20 districts, including Bhadrak, Khordha, Ganjam, Puri, and Sundargarh.

The initiative aims to strengthen life skills and provide structured opportunities for personal and social growth alongside academic learning.
