Odisha Tightens Net on Fertilizer Black Marketing as Kharif Sowing Peaks
The Odisha government has launched a zero‑tolerance campaign against fertiliser black marketing during the ongoing Kharif 2026–27 season.
Flying squads comprising officials from Revenue, Agriculture, and Police departments have intensified raids across districts to curb diversion and hoarding.
According to official data, 11,684 shop raids have been conducted statewide, resulting in 2,774 show‑cause notices, suspension of 170 licences, cancellation of 96 licences, and seizure of stocks from 12 dealers.
Criminal cases have been registered against seven traders. In Kandhamal’s Baliguda subdivision, 700 bags of DAP were seized, leading to licence cancellation and prosecution.
Similar raids are underway in Boudh’s Manamunda block following farmer complaints.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo emphasised that fertiliser diversion will not be treated as routine trade offences.
The government insists there is no shortage of fertilisers and urges farmers to purchase only from authorised dealers at controlled prices.
This crackdown, stricter than last year’s enforcement drive, aims to ensure fair availability of fertilisers during peak sowing season and protect farmers from exploitation.
