Odisha Schools Struggle with Hundreds of Vacant Posts
Odisha’s education sector is grappling with a significant shortage of staff across government, fully aided, and block‑grant‑aided schools.
Official data reveals hundreds of teaching and non‑teaching posts remain vacant, prompting urgent recruitment drives.
In government higher secondary schools, 358 of 1,734 sanctioned teacher posts are vacant, though recruitment through the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) is underway.
The state has also sanctioned 1,342 new teacher posts in 193 upgraded schools.
Vocational higher secondary schools face similar challenges, with vacancies including 70 junior lecturers, 116 senior clerks, 143 junior clerks, and 168 peons.
Fully aided private schools are filling teaching posts via the State Selection Board.
Block‑grant‑aided schools report 302 vacant lecturer posts out of 3,116 sanctioned positions.
To prevent disruption, guest lecturers are currently engaged. Recruitment for 1,652 teacher posts in fully aided high schools is also in progress.
The government has assured that steps are being taken to fill vacancies across all categories, aiming to strengthen Odisha’s education system and ensure continuity in learning.
