Odisha Reviews Pre‑Cyclone Preparedness, Chief Secretary Stresses ‘Zero Casualty’ Mission
Bhubaneswar: Chief Secretary Anu Garg chaired a high‑level meeting to review Odisha’s pre‑cyclone preparedness, reaffirming the state’s globally acclaimed “Zero Casualty” mission.
Senior officials, including Development Commissioner D.K. Singh, SRC & OSDMA MD Rajesh Patil, DG Fire Services Dr S. Sarangi, IMD Director Dr Manorama Mohanty, and ODRAF officers participated.
The meeting highlighted Odisha’s vulnerability to cyclones, intensified by climate change, and emphasised strict adherence to disaster management protocols.
While the IMD confirmed no immediate cyclonic threat, departments were directed to maintain readiness.
Preparedness measures include deployment of 30 ODRAF teams, reservoir management, power and road restoration planning, stocking of medicines and cattle feed, activation of shelters and control rooms, and dissemination of warnings to fishermen.
Development Commissioner Singh instructed departments to coordinate closely with field officers and follow IMD forecasts.
Chief Secretary Garg cautioned against complacency, urging strict adherence to SOPs and swift information flow to safeguard lives and sustain Odisha’s reputation for disaster resilience.
