Odisha Records Historic ₹1,234.88 Cr Revenue from Tobacco & Pan Masala in 2024–25

Odisha has achieved a record revenue milestone, collecting ₹1,234.88 crore from tobacco and pan masala products in the financial year 2024–25.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the figures in the Legislative Assembly while responding to MLA Tankadhar Tripathy.

The revenue was generated through VAT and statutory levies on pan masala, gutkha, cigarettes, beedis, and other tobacco items.

Over the past decade, collections have steadily risen, with notable jumps from ₹264.51 crore in 2016–17 to ₹1,012.56 crore in 2023–24.

In the current fiscal year 2025–26, Odisha has already collected ₹885.45 crore, signalling continued fiscal strength.

The figures highlight the growing contribution of tobacco and pan masala consumption to the state’s economy, despite ongoing public health concerns.
