Odisha Police Expands Emergency Response System with 4,195 New Posts

The Odisha Police has sanctioned 4,195 posts under Phase‑III of the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) to strengthen the state’s Dial‑112 services.

The move, approved by the Director General of Police and the Home Department, aims to modernise public safety infrastructure and reduce emergency response times across districts.

The sanctioned posts include 2,699 constables, 972 assistant sub‑inspectors, 377 havildar majors, 108 sub‑inspectors, 36 armed sub‑inspectors, one assistant commandant, and two additional SP/deputy commandants.

Districts with high population density and strategic importance—such as Koraput, Kendujhar, Anugola, Ganjam, Sambalpur, Baleshwar, Rourkela, Jajpur, Puri, and Balangir—received major allocations.

Urban centres and specialised control rooms like the State Emergency Response Centre (SERC) and Mirror Emergency Response Centre (MERC) also saw enhanced staffing.

Officials said the expansion will improve coordination between distress callers and field teams through Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs), ensuring 24/7 coverage for law and order, medical, and fire emergencies.

This rollout marks a significant step toward building a faster, more reliable emergency response network in Odisha, reinforcing public trust in Dial‑112 services.
