Odisha Launches Proactive PRAYASS Initiative to Transform Health, Nutrition and Education

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to strengthen social sector governance, the Odisha Government has introduced the PRAYASS (Proactive Governance Attempt for Yielding Results and Advancing Social Sector) initiative, aimed at improving healthcare, nutrition, and education outcomes across the state.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi chaired a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan to assess the performance of key social sector departments and chart a roadmap for more accountable and result-oriented governance.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasised that effective healthcare, quality education, and proper nutrition are fundamental pillars of inclusive development.

He directed officials to adopt targeted interventions that can deliver measurable improvements at the grassroots level.

In the health sector, the government has focused on reducing the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR), Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), and Neonatal Mortality Rate.

Special attention will be given to rural and remote regions to ensure timely access to healthcare services.

The administration also plans to strengthen emergency medical response mechanisms and improve maternal and child healthcare facilities.

Addressing child nutrition, the Chief Minister called for the expansion of the Suposhita Odisha campaign to combat malnutrition, stunting, and wasting among children.

Officials were directed to strengthen monitoring systems and ensure the quality delivery of nutritional support through Anganwadi centres.

In the education sector, the government stressed the need to improve foundational literacy and numeracy at the primary school level.

The Chief Minister urged authorities to reduce non-academic burdens on teachers, enabling them to focus more effectively on classroom instruction and student learning outcomes.

Senior officials from the departments of Health and Family Welfare, Women and Child Development, and School and Mass Education participated in the review meeting and discussed strategies for faster implementation of welfare initiatives.

The PRAYASS initiative is expected to create a coordinated, results-driven governance framework that accelerates progress in Odisha’s social development indicators while ensuring better service delivery for citizens.
