Odisha Govt Suspends SARCS Durga Prasad Chhuria Over Political Allegations
The Odisha Registrar of Cooperative Societies has suspended Sub-Assistant Registrar Durga Prasad Chhuria on charges of violating government service conduct rules.
The suspension order, issued on 31 August 2026, cites alleged involvement in political activities, which contravenes Rule-5 of the Odisha Government Servants’ Conduct Rules, 1959.
Chhuria is the husband of Snehangini Chhuria, a two-time BJD MLA, former minister, and current president of Biju Mahila Janata Dal.
Snehangini previously served as Minister of Cooperation, Handloom & Textiles (2014–2019) under Naveen Patnaik’s government.
The suspension has been enforced under Rule-12 of Odisha Civil Services (CCA) Rules, 1962, pending draft charges. Officials clarified that suspension is not a declaration of guilt but a procedural step before inquiry.
Chhuria’s headquarters will remain Bhubaneswar, and he will receive subsistence allowance as per Rule-90 of the Odisha Service Code.
While the exact allegations have not been disclosed, the move underscores the government’s emphasis on maintaining neutrality among civil servants, especially those with political family ties.
