Odisha Govt Cracks Down on 79 BEOs Over Teacher Transfer Delays

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has issued show‑cause notices to 79 Block Education Officers (BEOs) for failing to process elementary teachers’ transfer applications within the stipulated deadline.

Despite repeated reminders, the officers did not forward online transfer requests to District Education Officers (DEOs) by May 10, 2026.

The Directorate of Elementary Education described the lapse as “gross administrative indiscipline” and directed the BEOs to submit written explanations within three days.

Officials warned that disciplinary proceedings would follow if responses are unsatisfactory.

The affected districts include Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balangir, Nayagarh, Khurda, and Rayagada.

The delay has left numerous teacher transfer applications pending, particularly in Ganjam, Gajapati, and Kendrapara, creating anxiety among teachers ahead of the new academic session.

This move underscores the government’s push for accountability in the education sector, following recent warnings to universities and institutions over irregularities in appointments and administration.
