Odisha Govt Boosts Artists’ Allowance to Rs 3,000 in Historic Move
Bhubaneswar, Dec 29: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a significant relief measure for Odisha’s traditional artists, increasing their monthly allowance to Rs 3,000.
The decision has been welcomed across the state’s cultural community, offering financial stability to thousands of folk performers who have long struggled with limited support.
The enhanced allowance will directly benefit artists engaged in folk traditions such as Chhau dance, Dhanu Yatra, Pala, Danda Nata, and other classical forms.
Cultural experts believe this move will not only safeguard Odisha’s rich heritage but also inspire younger generations to carry forward these art forms.
Artists described the announcement as a “historic step” that provides dignity to their profession while energising festivals, performances, and community participation.
Observers expect the decision to strengthen Odisha’s cultural identity and attract new audiences to its vibrant folk traditions.
