Odisha Govt Announces Monthly Incentives for Aided College Principals, Remote Postings Get Higher Benefits

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move aimed at strengthening higher education administration, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved a monthly incentive scheme for in-charge principals of non-government-aided colleges across the state.

Under the new initiative, eligible principals will receive monthly financial incentives ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000, depending on the location and accessibility of their postings.

The scheme is expected to benefit in-charge principals serving in nearly 641 non-government-aided colleges under the 488 and 662 categories.

The state government is likely to incur an annual expenditure of around ₹6 crore for implementing the initiative.

The benefits will come into effect following the issuance of the official government notification.

According to the approved incentive structure, principals serving within their home districts or in developed urban areas will receive ₹5,000 per month.

Those posted outside their home districts will be entitled to ₹7,000 per month, while principals working more than 300 kilometres away from their home district or residence will receive ₹9,000 per month.

The highest incentive of ₹10,000 per month has been earmarked for principals serving in geographically remote and inaccessible areas.

Eligibility and categorisation of such postings will be determined by a designated committee.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the incentive scheme would encourage teachers to take up principal responsibilities in colleges located in distant and underserved regions.

The initiative is expected to ensure smooth academic administration and improve the continuity of teaching activities across Odisha’s higher education institutions.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the decision, viewing it as a positive step toward addressing leadership vacancies and improving governance in aided colleges, particularly in remote parts of the state.
