Central Team Assesses Flood Damage in Odisha’s Ganjam District

Berhampur: An eight-member Inter-Ministerial Central Team visited Odisha’s Ganjam district to conduct an extensive assessment of the damage caused by recent floods and heavy rains.

The visit forms part of the Centre’s process for evaluating losses and determining the need for financial assistance and rehabilitation measures.

During the field visit, the team inspected several flood-affected areas in the Purushottampur block, including Achuli and Handighar villages.

Officials assessed the impact of inundation on agricultural lands, residential settlements, and public infrastructure that suffered due to the flooding.

The delegation also reviewed the Hiradharbati irrigation project to examine the effects of the floods on water management systems and related infrastructure.

The inspection aimed to gather first-hand information on the extent of damage and the requirements for restoration and rehabilitation.

Senior state and district officials accompanied the central team during the visit, facilitating interactions with local authorities and affected residents.

The findings collected from the ground survey will be incorporated into a detailed assessment report to be submitted to the Union Government.

The report is expected to play a key role in determining the quantum of Central assistance and support measures required for relief, infrastructure repair, and long-term rehabilitation in the flood-affected areas of Ganjam district.
