Odisha Governor Visits Debrigarh Sanctuary, Advocates Domestic Tourism and Eco-Conservation
Sambalpur: Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati visited Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary in western Odisha and called for greater promotion of domestic tourism, highlighting the region’s rich biodiversity, natural beauty, and eco-tourism potential.
The Governor was accompanied by First Lady Jayashree Kambhampati during the visit.
During his tour of the sanctuary, the Governor explored various wildlife habitats and appreciated the efforts undertaken for biodiversity conservation, tourism infrastructure development, and visitor facilities.
He praised the sanctuary as one of Odisha’s premier eco-tourism destinations, attracting nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts alike.
Located near the Hirakud reservoir across Sambalpur and Bargarh districts, Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary has emerged as a major attraction due to its scenic landscape, dense forests, and diverse wildlife population.
The Governor noted that such destinations play a crucial role in showcasing India’s natural heritage while contributing to sustainable development.
Emphasising the importance of domestic travel, Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati encouraged citizens to explore tourism destinations within India.
He said promoting local tourism not only strengthens regional economies but also supports conservation initiatives and creates employment opportunities for local communities.
The Governor also appreciated the active participation of local communities in tourism-related activities around the sanctuary, stating that community involvement is essential for balancing economic growth with environmental conservation.
The visit reinforced the potential of western Odisha as an emerging hub for sustainable and nature-based tourism.
