BJD Leader Sujata Alleges Goon Interference, Threats During Odisha Campus Elections

Bhubaneswar: BJD leader and former IAS officer Sujata Rout Karthikeyan has strongly criticised the BJP-led Odisha government over alleged interference and intimidation during ongoing student union elections across educational institutions in the state.

Addressing concerns over the election atmosphere on campuses, Sujata alleged that outsiders and anti-social elements were entering colleges and disrupting the democratic process.

She raised concerns over reports of individuals allegedly forcing their way into a women’s college by breaking iron gates and creating an environment of fear among students.

The BJD leader further claimed that members of the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) were being subjected to police harassment, while student leaders were allegedly facing pressure and threats from college authorities.

Sujata said such incidents undermine the peaceful academic environment that educational institutions should promote.

She stressed that students should be able to participate in campus elections freely, without fear, coercion, or external influence.

Holding the state government responsible for maintaining law and order during the election process, she urged authorities to ensure free, fair, and peaceful student elections across Odisha.

She emphasised that healthy democratic practices on campuses are essential for nurturing future leaders and responsible citizens.

Reiterating the party’s stand, Sujata asserted that the Biju Janata Dal would continue to oppose any actions that adversely affect students’ interests and future prospects.
