Odisha Girl Becomes World’s Youngest Female FIDE‑Rated Chess Player at Age 4
Bhubaneswar: In a historic achievement, four‑year‑old Elena Mishra from Odisha has become the world’s youngest female chess player to earn an official FIDE rating.
At just 4 years, 6 months, and 16 days, Elena secured a FIDE Blitz rating of 1432 in September 2026 after competing in the Odisha State Blitz FIDE Rating Open Chess Championship at Mother’s Public School.
Her distinction is unique—she is currently the only female player born in 2022 or later to hold an official FIDE rating in any format.
Elena’s success not only highlights the growing popularity of chess in Odisha but also underscores the emergence of young talent from the state.
Her achievement is expected to inspire more children to take up chess, strengthening Odisha’s presence in national and international chess circles.
