Odisha Forest Officials Foil Turtle Smuggling Attempt, Rescue 30 Live Turtles

In a major crackdown on wildlife trafficking, forest officials in Odisha seized 30 live turtles during an anti‑smuggling raid near the Kangra Section office.

Acting on patrol intelligence, the team intercepted two suspects transporting the turtles in a sack.

While one accused was arrested on the spot, another managed to escape on a bike.

Authorities revealed that the turtles were being smuggled from Kalahandi district with plans to sell them in Raighar, Nabarangpur.

The successful operation highlights both the vigilance of forest staff and the persistent challenges of illegal wildlife trade in the region.

Officials confirmed that the rescued turtles will be rehabilitated safely, while further investigation is underway to trace the broader smuggling network.
