Odisha Floods: Heavy Rain Inundates 10 Districts, Over 15,000 Evacuated

A deep depression over the Andhra Pradesh–South Odisha coast has unleashed torrential rains across Odisha, causing widespread flooding in 10 districts.

More than 15,000 residents have been evacuated from vulnerable areas as rivers overflow and urban centres struggle with waterlogging.

According to the Special Relief Commissioner, 80 blocks, 325 Gram Panchayats, and 1,071 villages are submerged.

Urban flooding has been reported in 49 wards across 10 towns.

Crop damage has been extensive, with 4,480 hectares of farmland inundated.

Northern rivers including Jalaka, Budhabalanga, Baitarani, and Kani are flowing at or above warning levels.

Inflows from Jharkhand have worsened the situation in Mayurbhanj, affecting 20 blocks.

Downstream districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur remain on high alert.

Rescue operations are underway with ODRAF, Fire Services, and NDRF teams deployed.

Relief shelters are providing food, water, and medical aid.

Schools and Anganwadi centres in affected districts have been closed.

The state government has enforced a “Zero Casualty Policy,” with district collectors on 24×7 vigil.

Residents in low‑lying areas have been urged to remain alert and cooperate with evacuation procedures as authorities continue to monitor the situation.
