Odisha Flood Fear Returns as Rivers Cross Danger Marks

Heavy rainfall has triggered fresh flood concerns across northern Odisha, with three major rivers swelling beyond danger levels in Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, and Baleshwar districts.

In Kendujhar, the Baitarani River has crossed the danger mark at Anandapur, leaving embankments vulnerable and causing waterlogging in Joda and Champua.

The Suna River has also overflowed, disrupting roads, markets, and colleges in Joda municipality.

In Mayurbhanj, the Budhabalanga River has inundated low‑lying areas of Baripada, cutting off connectivity at Sarumula and Kaliaami.

Meanwhile, in Baleshwar, the Jalka River is flowing at 7.84 metres, well above its 6.50‑metre danger mark, threatening nearly 90 villages in Basta block.

Authorities have placed the districts on high alert, moving residents to shelters and closely monitoring river levels.

With forecasts predicting more rainfall, officials warn that the situation could worsen in the coming days.
