Odisha EOW Nabs Key Accused in ₹200-Crore Crypto Scam
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Police has arrested Chitta Ranjan Mohanty in Jagatsinghpur for his alleged involvement in a massive Rs 200-crore crypto Ponzi scheme.
The case, registered under multiple acts including IPC, PCMC Act, OPID Act, and IT Act, originated from a complaint by Swagat Kumar Nayak of Puri, who claimed he was cheated of Rs 85,000.
Investigations revealed that Mohanty, along with associates Sandeep Choudhary and Shankar Sarkar, promoted the fraudulent platform Yes World through meetings, websites, apps, and WhatsApp groups, luring investors with promises of high returns.
Over 8,000 investors in Odisha and 2.5 lakh nationwide were duped, with losses exceeding Rs 200 crore.
Authorities traced Rs 19.32 lakh to Mohanty’s accounts and seized two mobile phones.
The scam spanned several states, including Punjab, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Haryana, Gujarat, Bihar, and Jharkhand.
Further investigation is underway.
