Odisha Colleges to Cut Oily Foods from Canteens and Hostels
The Higher Education Department of Odisha has directed colleges across the state to reduce the use of cooking oil in canteens and hostels.
Popular deep‑fried breakfast items such as puri, bara, and aloo chop will be phased out from menus.
Officials emphasised that the move is aimed at promoting healthier eating habits among students without compromising nutrition or food quality.
The directive also highlights the impact of global supply chain disruptions since the COVID‑19 pandemic, reinforcing the need to minimise oil consumption.
Colleges have been advised to avoid deep‑fried foods and instead provide balanced, nutritious meals.
This initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s call for healthier practices and is expected to reshape campus dining culture across Odisha.
