Odisha CM Launches ₹65,000 Cr JSW Steel Plant in Jagatsinghpur

Jagatsinghpur: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the JSW Utkal Steel Project at Dhinkia in Jagatsinghpur district, marking one of the largest private investments in the state.

The Rs 65,000 crore project will establish a 13.2 MTPA integrated steel plant at Paradeep, spread across 2,950 acres.

Leveraging Odisha’s coastal advantage and port connectivity, the plant is expected to transform the state into a steel hub.

Speaking at the ceremony, CM Majhi said the project reflects Odisha’s renewed industrial vision, contrasting it with the failed POSCO attempt.

He emphasised that the new government is committed to industrial growth and job creation.

JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal described the project as a defining moment for JSW Steel’s expansion, reaffirming confidence in India’s manufacturing future.

The plant will be developed in phases, with capacity aligned to market demand.

The initiative also supports Mission Purvodaya, a Government of India programme aimed at unlocking eastern India’s industrial potential.

Once operational, the facility will significantly contribute to India’s industrial transformation and Odisha’s economic growth.
