Odisha Vigilance Arrests Ex-Cooperative Secretary in Rs 19.80 Lakh Crop Insurance Scam
Balasore (Odisha): The Odisha Vigilance has arrested Subal Kumar Sahu, former Secretary of Dahunda Service Co-operative Society in Bhogarai Block, Balasore, for allegedly embezzling Rs 19.80 lakh in crop insurance funds during the 2014–15 financial year.
According to officials, Sahu manipulated official records and extended crop insurance benefits to ineligible members of the cooperative society, thereby misappropriating funds meant for genuine farmers.
A case has been registered as Balasore Vigilance PS Case No. 03/2026 under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
The accused has been forwarded to the Special Judge, Vigilance, Balasore.
Authorities have emphasised strict action against misuse of public funds and assured that efforts are underway to recover the embezzled amount.
Vigilance officials are continuing their probe to identify other possible culprits and strengthen monitoring mechanisms to prevent similar scams in cooperative societies across Odisha.
