Odisha Cabinet Clears ₹589.10 Cr Handloom Development Scheme
The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has approved the Mukhyamantri Hastatanta Bikas Yojana (MHBY) with a budget of Rs 589.10 crore over five years.
The scheme aims to modernise the state’s handloom sector while safeguarding its rich cultural heritage and improving the livelihoods of thousands of weaver families.
MHBY is structured around ten core components, including construction of hygienic workspaces (Karmashala Nirmana), infrastructure development (Bhittibhumi Bikas), skill enhancement (Dakhyata Bikas), technology adoption, marketing promotion, brand building with GI registration, raw material banks, IT innovation, awards for skilled weavers, and robust monitoring.
The government expects the initiative to increase active weaver households, expand production, foster entrepreneurship, and enhance Odisha’s handloom competitiveness nationally and globally.
By converging with other departments, MHBY is positioned as a driver of inclusive growth, cultural preservation, and sustainable livelihoods.
