Odisha Cabinet Amends Labour Service Rules, Clears Path for Officer Promotions
Bhubaneswar, April 11: The Odisha Cabinet has approved key amendments to the Labour Service Rules, 2019, aimed at improving administrative efficiency and addressing long‑pending service concerns of labour officers.
Under the new provisions, Assistant Labour Officers (ALOs) and Rural Labour Inspectors (RLIs) appointed before 2019 will be exempted from departmental examinations, paving the way for their regularisation and promotion eligibility.
This move acknowledges prior service and experience, ensuring fair career progression and boosting morale among officers.
The amendments also update references to national laws, replacing outdated codes with the recently enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
Officials said the changes reflect Odisha’s commitment to modernising governance while balancing employee welfare with legal compliance.
