Odisha Assembly Erupts Over MMDR Amendment, Adjourned Till 11:30 AM
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes today as Opposition members stormed the Speaker’s podium, demanding withdrawal of the Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation (MMDR) amendment.
The protest, marked by slogan shouting and heated exchanges, forced the Speaker to adjourn proceedings until 11:30 AM.
The MMDR amendment has emerged as a flashpoint in the ongoing Monsoon Session, with Opposition parties alleging that the changes could adversely impact Odisha’s mining sector and state interests.
The ruling party, however, maintained that the amendment aligns with national policy and is necessary for regulatory clarity.
With tensions running high, the issue is expected to dominate debates throughout the session, setting the stage for further confrontations between the treasury and Opposition benches.
