Nuapada Woman’s Death After Alleged Wrong Injection Sparks Protest

Nuapada: Tension gripped Pandrapathar village after the sudden death of 40‑year‑old Lachhanti Majhi, allegedly due to a wrong injection administered at the district hospital.

Majhi, admitted with mild fever on August 25, developed severe chest and abdominal pain three days later.

In the absence of the attending doctor, a staff member reportedly gave her an injection not prescribed by the physician. Within minutes, her abdomen swelled, and she died.

Her family accused Dr Ajay Panda of negligence and refusal to refer her to Bhima Bhoi Medical College despite repeated pleas.

Following the incident, bereaved relatives, joined by Congress workers and local leaders, staged a sit‑in protest outside the CDMO office demanding justice, a high‑level probe, and Rs 1 lakh compensation.

They rejected the administration’s immediate relief of Rs 10,000.

Police registered a murder case against Dr Panda based on a written complaint.

The body was sent for post‑mortem, while authorities assured a neutral investigation to determine whether the death was caused by a wrong injection or medical error.

The incident has triggered widespread outrage in Nuapada, with community voices calling for accountability and systemic reforms in healthcare delivery.
