Nor’wester Storm Wrecks Deogarh, Families Homeless

Deogarh, Odisha: A violent nor’wester storm lashed Deogarh district on Monday afternoon, leaving a trail of destruction across Tileibani, Reamal, and Barkote blocks.

Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds damaged homes, farms, and public infrastructure, displacing several families.

In Tileibani block, roofs of houses in Talabahali village were blown away, forcing families into the open.

At Kardapal village, tin sheets from a hockey training centre struck worker Nishikant Pradhan, causing severe shoulder injuries.

Poultry farms and asbestos‑roofed houses collapsed in Mardang village.

Barkote block witnessed massive disruption as a mango tree blocked the Dantaribahal–Tusula road, while several villages reported damaged houses and power outages.

In the Reamal block, roofs of more than 15 houses were torn off in Nabadihi and Bailedihi villages.

Fallen trees and electric poles blocked roads, with locals deploying JCB machines to clear debris.

The electricity supply was disrupted due to broken wires.

The district administration and revenue department have begun damage assessment.

Affected families are demanding immediate compensation and financial aid to rebuild homes and restore livelihoods.
