Nor’wester Fury: Odisha Villages Face Widespread Damage
Bhubaneswar, May 25: Severe Nor’wester storms lashed several districts of Odisha on Monday, leaving behind a trail of destruction and disrupting normal life.
Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds uprooted trees, damaged houses, snapped power lines, and blocked roads.
In Mayurbhanj district, tragedy struck when a minor girl lost her life after a tree branch fell on her, while her mother was hospitalised with injuries.
In Deogarh, a youth suffered critical injuries when a tin asbestos sheet, blown away by storm winds, severed his hand.
Villages in Tileibani and Barkote blocks reported asbestos roofs being blown off, mud houses damaged, and belongings destroyed.
Fallen trees blocked roads, severely affecting transport and emergency response.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and heatwave conditions across Odisha.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, avoid sheltering under trees, and follow official safety guidelines.
